Imports of canned tuna into the EU marginally increased by 1% to 396 400 MT last year from 391 400 tonnes in 2007. Ecuador was the leading canned tuna supplier to the EU with its exports significantly higher by 37% to 88 600 tonnes in 2008. [cont]

Consumption of fish, molluscs and crustaceans in Spain increased from 25.85 kg/pc in 1961 to 44.65 kg/pc in 2003. Demersal and pelagic fish are the main categories of seafood consumed in Spain, followed by molluscs. Fish in Spain is consumed in a variety of ways but often whole, mainly fresh but also frozen.
